🎊 Hoka One One Carbon X 2 Review
Structured Adaptable. Connor Overall Score: 7/10. The Carbon X 3 makes small changes over its predecessor, so fans of the series will still continue to enjoy the latest version. The new midsole compound does seem to be more efficient than the compound in v2, but you won't find any major updates in the underfoot feel.
So to my marathon-runners, race-day warriors, and devoted after-work urban joggers, meet the Hoka Rocket X 2 ($250), the "highest performing road racing product in the Hoka line." (Which is a
Finally, the Hoka Tecton X 2 is very lightweight (8.9 oz / 252 g for men) for a trail shoe with so much protection. However, the bumper seems less robust but still gets the job done. Trail runners’ reviews of the new Matryx stem are unanimous: it’s nothing short of revolutionary!

Matt: The Hoka Tecton X 2 is a dual carbon-plated distance racing trail racing shoe. It is one of the lightest carbon-plated trail shoes and maintains a moderate stack height for lightweight snappiness on a variety of terrain. A grippy Vibram outsole grips the trail well, but is still moderate enough to tackle road-to-trail miles.
Hoka One One Carbon X 2 ($180) Update: Read our full multi tester review of the Carbon X 2 here. Ryan Eiler shares his first run impressions and all the details for the Carbon X 2 releasing January. It is a a carbon plated endurance racing (and training) shoe with a 32mm heel / 27mm stack. Weight is approx. 8.4 oz / 239g. Releases Jan. 2021
The Carbon X 2 contains our J-Frame(TM) technology designed to prevent excessive inward roll, or overpronation, without overcorrecting your gait. The Carbon X 2 contains features that make the shoe inherently stable, such as a wide base and our Active Foot Frame, for a moderate amount of stability that is still designed to work for neutral gaits.
Highlights. Highlights from Hoka include the Rocket X 2, Tecton X 2, and Mach X. Secret. No word on Rincon 4 (we tried) and we did have some photos of the Mach X, but it’s under embargo until summer 2023. Missing. Not fully inclusive of all 2023 shoes (some FW shoes may still be under embargo)
With over 50-miles in the Hoka Carbon X 3, the exposed EVA outsole is holding up exceptionally well. Visually the shoe is a stunner. The mango orange with the sherbert pink is beautiful. My size 10.5 weighs 9.07 oz. (257 g). The stack is 32 mm heel 27 mm forefoot for a 5 mm drop. MATT: Let’s start with first impressions.
The Carbon X 2 is THE long distance runner in the Hoka arsenal and combines softer, lighter foam with the same rubberized foam outsole as its predecessor. This shoe is all about fit. That’s why the Carbon X 2 trumps with a special cuff, notched tongue, and high-tech mesh with stitched-in TPU yarns and extra reinforcement around the laces. Get
Meanwhile the Endorphin Speed is often sold out, such is its popularity. Both shoes also cost more than £150. The Hoka One One Mach 4 matches these two stand-outs with a comfortable and quick ride that can handle a variety of training, and it would also be suited to longer races like half marathons and marathons.
The Hoka Tecton X keeps the same stack height as the Hoka Speedgoat (33 mm stack height in the heel and 29 mm in the forefoot – drop of 4 mm) with 20 g/0.7 oz less. By integrating not one but two carbon fiber plates parallel to the length of the shoe, Hoka was inspired by the way real tectonic plates float on the earth’s surface.
But it’s certainly different. For starters, it’s a lower stack height. The rocker seems less-aggressive. It weighs less. And wonder of wonders– it’s the lowest price-point of any carbon-plated racer on the market at $180 ($20 less than the Carbon X-SPE and Carbon X 2!). Enough details, let’s get into the review.

An impressive flyweight, the Carbon X is among HOKA’s lightest shoes to date, weighing a scant 246 grams (8.6 ounces; men’s 8.5). It provides a 5mm heel-toe drop — from the men’s 32-27mm
